Air Source Heat Pumps

Air Source heat pumps provide both air to air and air to water systems, similar to air conditioning and hot water heating systems respectively. Both systems works in a similar way with the installation of an external unit which absorbs heat from the outside air. After compressing and condensing the air, the heated air can either be circulated as heated air throughout your home or  compressed further into a liquid state providing hot water to your radiators and showers, as well as underfloor heating.

Ground Source Heat Pumps

These systems work by collecting the heat that can be found in the ground around your property. After  digging a borehole or trench, pipes or ground loops are installed into the ground under you garden collecting the thermal energy and compressing it to a higher temperature and transferring this heat to a hot water tank designed to provide your hot water for the heating  and hot water system within your property.   With the consistent temperatures underground, the heat pump takes heat from the ground in the form of thermal energy, compresses this to a higher temperature and transfers it to an indoor unit. This contains a hot water tank that provides your domestic hot water supply.

Both systems have become increasingly popular due to their energy efficiency and potential cost saving in terms of energy bills.

What are the benefits of installing Air or Ground  Source Pumps?

There are a number of benefits from installing either air or ground source heat pumps and can vary in degree depending on your exiting heating system. Both systems have the potential to:
