What is a ground source heat pump?

A ground source heat pump is a heating and cooling system that utilizes the latent heat that is stored underground, originating from the Sun’s energy, however cold the surface conditions may be within a few metres of the surface,  ground temperatures are constant  at around 10-12 degrees. Ground Source heat pump systems transfer the natural heat into a network of buried pipes, passes it through an evaporator, compressor and condenser which then provides heat for property and hot water system .

The electricity required to run this process is considerably less the energy required to run the more traditional forms of heating systems, as a result your energy bills will be reduced.

What is an air source heat pump?

Air source heat pumps work in reverse to that of a fridge using heat exchangers to extract the heat from the outside ambient air temperature. This is turned into a gas, then compressed back into a liquid, which increases its temperature. The heated liquid  is then converted into hot water which can then be circulated around your property, producing both hot water and central heating.

Because this systems can produce 3-4 times the energy it uses,  air source heat pumps can provide low cost heating for homes and businesses alike.

What are the benefits of installing Air or Ground  Source Pumps?

There are a number of benefits from installing either air or ground source heat pumps and can vary in degree depending on your exiting heating system. Both systems have the potential to:

  • Four times as much energy
